S. Korea Locks in Tank, Armored Vehicle Export Deal with Peru
The agreement was formalized Tuesday on Peruvian soil with Peruvian President Jose Jeri and Lee Yong-chul, who leads South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration, both present for the ceremony.
The arrangement calls for defense manufacturer Hyundai Rotem to work alongside Peru's Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory in supplying 54 K2 tanks plus 141 K808 wheeled armored vehicles, with delivery scheduled before the end of next year. A presidential office statement reported by the news agency outlined these specifics.
Should the contract reach completion, it would represent South Korea's inaugural tank sale to any Latin American nation and stand as its most substantial ground weaponry transaction across the entire region.
President Lee Jae Myung commended the framework, saying he expects the agreement to "significantly upgrade the two countries' defense and arms industry cooperation."
